i say u better make sure that ur kid is familiar with alcohol about 6 months before they leave for college if u dont want them to go overboard.
as far as them drinking, i think its healthy for the parents to act like they disapprove, but also give their kids space. make sure if they catch them driving they lose the keys for a while

Dont get him drunk unless its every other-other time ya know. And then on that other-other-other time, finish a fifth of jager with him.

All kidding aside, let the kid be a kid, but be a parent when you need to be. Dont be a naive, strict parent who thinks their kid is gonna be sober FOR LIFE....
