Sadly, following the law doesn't protect anyone from being killed by police. It's remarkably easy to get someone killed by police. Just call 911 and report that your target has been threatening people with a weapon. That's how John Crawford, Tamir Rice, and Daniel Shaver were killed, despite the fact that they were not actually threatening anyone with a weapon or violating any other laws.
