I like Rolex, but when I see someone wearing one I initially think "has a little money and doesn't know jack shite about watches" because they went the "easy" route. My assumption is probably true about 50% of the time. If I see someone wearing a PP I think "now this mother fricker has money and knows what he's doing in the watch world."

I think the Rolex assumption is probably accurate more like 85% of the time as far as knowing watches per se. Now I think more than 50% actually get the watch is iconic and have a decent idea of the quality. Then again maybe I am just giving people more credit than they deserve.

I used to only wear vintage Rolex watches because they were cool before they were cool and that's what I collected. Over time as I sold them to take advantage of the huge appreciation I begin to pick up some modern Rolex. I have to say they are among the ones I own that are most difficult to take off when it is time to rotate in the morning. There is just something so right about them from design to legibility to the bracelet and the balance. The only thing I would change is adding AR to the crystals.

If I had to choose one forever watch it would likely be between my GMT II or Nautilus 5980.
