Good question I would like to know this. Someone on another topic says hudl listed Provens 40 time as 4.7. If you look at his film he does not look like he runs that time

I agree, he looks faster than that even though that is what they have him listed as....4.7 in the 40. His pull away speed on the highlight films seems to back up a faster time.

Proven runs faster than a 4.7 40. You can tell by just watching his film. Idk what his time is officially, but he's definitely faster than a 4.7 I promise. Not saying a 4.7 is slow, because its not, lol. Alot of these kids think a guy running a 4.5 just grows on trees and that there a dime a dozen but they're not. 4.5 is blazing speed.

4.7 is slow for a RB, 4.5 is ideal, blazing speed is 4.4 or less ala pooka. We definitely need pooka

It seems to me that years ago almost all RBs were claiming 4.4 or 4.5 times. I don’t know how official these times were. Perhaps there is now closer scrutiny on posting a 40 time.

Alvin Kamara ran a 4.56 at the combine. I think Jarvis Landry ran a 4.77. 40 times can be very misleading for high school players because they can be inflated so easily.
Even with electronically timed 40s it can be misleading as kids are running on different surfaces.
Unless they are being timed at the same camp, on the same track, with the same wind conditions by electronic timing, comparing kids 40 times can be really useless information.
With running backs, measurements of change of direction and acceleration can be more important. Also slower backs, like Emmit Thomas and Dalton Hilliard, made their yds after breaking tackles.
The 40 time is an impt metric, but way over rated.

Provens shuttle time
Would be what I’m interested in. Shiftiness is his best trait

Seems modest. His film looks like he's got pretty good separation speed

Shuttle time 4.33
But I guess we need to stop posting about him...he's ONLY a 3* and the gumps didn't offer him...

You would be very surprised at some of the 40 times for rbs in college football and even the pros. Kareem hunt, pro bowl rb for the kc chiefs, is 5'11'' and 215 and runs a 4.62 40 yard dash electronically timed. There are plenty of other rbs that you would be surprised at their 40 times. 4.7 is plenty fast, it's not bad. He looks like he runs faster than that though. I'm just saying, alot of people, including you, think that 4.7 is slow, and you can't be a good rb at that speed and you're just ignorant and wrong. Football speed is different than straight line speed anyway. You prob don't know that either. Youre just ignorant, I wont hold it against you. A 4.5 40 is fricking moving by the way, and is extremely fast if you see it on the field in real life and not on tv or from the stands. Hell, the average combine results in the 40 yard dash for rbs is 4.59. You must think everybody in college that plays rb must run a 4.4 lol. Get real.

Gotta remember: 40-time measures burst. Provens has greater top end and continues to accelerate or maintain his top end for longer distances, which is why he pulls away from people on long runs.

Not one thing in your post was relative to what I said. Did you see anywhere in mine where I said football speed and straight line speed were the same? I simply stated my opinion. Find me one good back in the league or college that’s 200-210lbs and runs a 4.7. ? That’s slow for a RB that size is all I said. There were only 3 guys in last years combine at RB that ran in the 4.7’s and 2 of them were 240lbs and one was 217 dude from nc state that’s poo poo

Negative ghost rider. Top speed is reached in a few steps for these guys.

I think Curry ran a 4.68 on a bad ankle. Curry doesn’t look too fast on film. Has a running style like Marion Barber but not as big.

Who was it, Eric Martin or Wendell Davis that ran around a 4.7? I want to say Martin. Yes a wr, bur he did ok.
