“Lucas never made a Star Wars movie by sitting down and thinking, ‘What do the fans want to see?’ And I knew if I wrote wondering what the fans would want, as tempting as that is, it wouldn’t work, because people would still be shouting at me, ‘F— you, you ruined Star Wars,’ and I would make a bad movie. And ultimately, that’s the one thing nobody wants.”

So he Ridley Scott'd himself with way less talent. At least that explains it.

If you don't want to make a Star Wars movie, I don't know, how about not signing on to make a Star Wars movie? If you fail that logic, but still want to make a Star Wars movie, how about not relying so much on that Star Wars movie that you hate so much? All those characters that irritate you, the storylines and symbols that are prevalent... how about not actively destroying them, and instead pay quick homage and find a new story?

If you don't like what Luke brings to the story, how about not bringing Luke into the story? Again, if you fail logic, how about, instead of making Luke into a lame version of himself and throwing the light saber, maybe he disassembles it while explaining what he doesn't like about the Jedi coldly. He takes the Crystal out and says...

"This is important. We need to find the balance again, everything built around the Jedi was broken, like this light saber."
"Take this crystal, and build your own light saber."

And scene.

The more I think about this, the more retarded it is.

How do you get involved with a franchise, any franchise, and ignore what the fans of the franchise want?

Jesus Christ. I would pay good money to see a scene like that.

Think about how beloved Luke is. Think about what Rian did to him.
