Hardly. This way he would control the narrative himself, instead of having to respond to it. This is a common approach to famous people being blackmailed.

I just don’t see it.

He isn’t controlling the narrative. If there are sordid details then they can still come out.

The main leverage would be the wife finding out. If she already knows then the public finding out is a much smaller secondary piece. Famous people cheat all the time. He isn’t a pastor, conservative politician or anything. Him broadcasting it makes it a bigger deal than a chick saying “whoever this guy is cheated with me”.
