Because you haven’t thought it through. Seriously, who is the protagonist? Why haven’t they used the hyperdrive as a weapon before? Did anything of substance happen on the casino world? Why is the Resistance now led by a purple haired gender studies professor? Why did we have an OJ Simpson Bronco chase scene for half the movie? You mean to tell me they only have enough fuel for 3 days? Just ponder those for a second, because I can go on and on.

Leia uses the Force to propel herself through space after she gets blown up on the bridge (which may be the single most powerful use of it in the movies) and
1) Nobody ever mentions it again.
2) Purple Hair Lady or anybody else never asks her to take a shot and see if she can maybe use the Force to shut down the engines on the other ship or send it into hyperspace or something. Sure, there is a 99% chance it's no dice but nobody even bothers to ask if that's even possible.
