Just saw it over the weekend, and yes it is pretty bad. The visual effects were of course stunning but the plot holes were big enough to drive the Death Star through them.
For example, it turns out that ramming a ship at light speed can destroy the entire enemy fleet at once. Then why in hell didn't they have a half-dozen drones rigged to do that from the start?
The entire Resistance leadership is on the bridge of the same ship so they can all be killed at once? Really?
And when will Kylo Ren finally stop being an emo teenager and grow up? It's hard to take him seriously as a bad guy. Every time he flies into one of his rages I want to pat him on the head and tell him he'll grow up and all this will be behind him one day.

This bothers me and I see it a lot. The only explanation can be that they hadn't thought about using light speed that way yet, or it had never been done before. It seems far fetched, but that's the only thing that would make sense. Commercial planes were invented a long time ago but were never hijacked and used in a kamikaze style to take out whole buildings until 16 years ago. Why hadn't this been done several years before?

Another good points I picked up elsewhere...
Blue haired chick is vice admiral but Poe has never met her?
She blows up the FR fleet with the killer hyperspace move - but then all the characters, killer ram and assault force just end up on Crait like nothing happened?
I rewatched ESB and RotJ with my boys and again got another appreciation of how difficult it SHOULD BE to use the force. Luke could barely pull his light saber in Hoth and had to get training from Yoda himself to barely do anything - but Rey is a force wielding master after being exposed to it for a week.
Just silly laziness in writing.
