Driver's seat? I'm riding in the back and let my slave robot chauffeur me around.

Im sure the law will require at least one licensed individual to be in the driver's seat just in case it has to go to manual mode

Hypothetical: the radiator goes out and you have to take control. You dont want to in the backseat when it switches control to manual

No way they wouldn't install a weight sensor to prevent the car from firing or remaining running if there isn't someone in the driver's seat, at least for the first few years (decades?) of self-driving cars and that person would be considered to be in control.

Here's how they keep the DUI gravy train going when self-driving cars become the norm and the "failure to properly signal" fishing expeditions go away: Checkpoints everywhere, comrade.

There is already the thought you can rent out your driverless cars Uber style

Surely the idea is full driverless.
