A semi auto is just as simple to use as a revolver.

American Rifleman had an article recently about taking a bunch of inexperienced women to shoot. They gave them instruction and let them shoot several semis and revolvers.

A bit to my surprise, they ladies much preferred the semis. They didn't mind the slide once shown how to operate it. None of the revolvers made their top picks list.

My only concern would be that they would never shoot the gun again until, 10 years later, a need arose. "Now, which way does this slide thing go?" Of course, if the home defense gun keeps one in the chamber that is not as much of a concern.

The only thing my wife didn't like about an old 9mm I bought was the slide. Said it felt like the gun was jumping in her small hands because of the cycling. But she has a lightweight .38 that she is great with. I've tried a few different semi autos but it is always the same thing. Even my XDs with smaller grips, she will shoot it, but prefers the revolver. I would have sold the thing years ago but I want her to at least have one she is comfortable using.

That being said, for home defense, she will grab my sweet sixteen if something happened.
