Whatever else Miles may have done or not done, it's indisputable that he kept the program's basement at a high level.
That's a big part of his undoing, and something that plays into the Ed O acceptance right now...

Once it became clear that Miles would never win less than 8 games, we saw that as terrible (the worst it could get). And so seasons where he won 9, 10 games weren't successes, they were only 1-2 games above failure. Instead of seeing consistency, we saw a team barely performing above it's minimum.

Orgeron had a bad record coming in, and he reminded us of disaster by getting smoked by Miss St and losing to Troy. So when he beat Auburn and played Alabama reasonably well, that was achieving at a relatively high level. A 9-3 season is seen as a success because he exceeded his potential basement by quite a bit.

I say that without attacking O; but it is part of the dynamics in play.

Terrific post Scoob.
I tried to warn people last year that Fisher is just another good coach at best and at least 25 coaches couldve won a ton of games at Fla St given the scenario he was handed.

Jimbo was never the answer for LSU.
He won when he had Winston and both Florida and Miami were struggling. This gave him 2 wins a season and a recruiting edge in his home state, which is arguably the best in the land. He took over for Bobby Bowden and was handed a gold mine.
He also coached in the easiest P5 conference at the time and was a double digit favorite in almost every game. But yet he was going to come into the SEC west and beat Saban, somehow.

Even with all these built in advantages especially the recruiting edge, he still let Clemson and arguably a couple of basketball schools catch up.
6th is the ACC Atlantic... Fla St!! Thats beyond comprehension for a $7.5 million dollar coach at Fla st and in the ACC.

Make any excuse you want for him, he was not and is not the answer at LSU. Being far away from Bama and another great recruiting state, Texas, gives him and many others a chance to build something. But he wasnt going to get it done at LSU.

Do you really think LSU fans consider 9-3 a successful season? Going 9-3 AFTER getting blown out by MSU and losing at home to Troy to fall to 3-2 is not the same as considering 9-3 a success before the season starts.

“a 9-3 season is seen as a success”

It’s seen that way cause 9-3 when you play in the SEC west, down conference yr. or not, is a success. The problem is, we fired a guy who in 2015 was 9-3 cause we wanted more success than 9-3 gave us and now 9-3 is being championed as a major accomplishment simply cause we don’t suck as it appeared we might.

We are 3rd in the west, we got beat by Bama, again, we are 17th in the playoffs, we got run over by a SEC team we have owned for 2 decades, and we lost to a SBC team who had no where near our talent. You put this very same season under our last staff and it’s gonna be labeled as a failure.

I don’t really get the push I see by some to try to claim this season to some how be any different, on the whole, from any of the yrs. since 2012, but each to our own.
