I pronounce it to rhyme with "out" in all situations (such as "a paper route",
when used as a last name (I taught with Mrs. Route (really did, lol),
and when used on a map with a number.
BUT...
Isn't Route 66 pronounced as if it were "Root 66"?

As long as I can remember and that includes the old tv show as well.
