I agree with you.

Furthermore, It was 2 totally different situations.

Basketball was in the dumps, had nothing to lose, and has no where near the financial implications to the University (not saying it isn't important). So, they could take a chance on a young up and coming coach in hopes of providing some energy, passion, and promise to the program. It worked.

Football on the other hand, was not in the dumps, though trending down rapidly. And contrary to the idiots on this board, LSU reached out to a handful or more of top coaches past Fisher and Herman. These guys had JOBS thus we couldn't go around publicizing it. Which is why the dummies around here think Alleva just got sucked into to making some sort of urgent hire.

The amount of money it was going to take was just not something LSU was going to do. So they had to look at the second pot. No one stood out. So instead of dragging out the process, a decision was made so that O could save the recruiting class and keep a bigger, deeper slide from happening.

Crisis averted. Ed O did his job and kept a deeper slide from happening and things have stabilized. He has addressed a ton of issues and has hired well.

It worked.

Now the question remaining is can O go from stabilizing the program to trending it back up to the top? It isn'g happening next year, that's for sure. But in year 3 do we take those big steps forward?

No one knows yet. It looks promising, but we don't know.

But the bottom line is that ED O has done exactly what needed to happen and LSU hired the best person it could to do that (since it couldn't get one of the bigger names).

Be thankful. Appreciate him. Support him. Let's see how well coached we are next year and see where our recruiting is going. That will be the sign.

All kinds of things wrong with this post, rather than pick it all apart at once i'll just start here:

The cost was something that was known or should have been known by the powers that be prior to firing Miles. You do not fire one of your winningest all time coaches when the bottom has not fallen out if you dont have it in the budget to go out and get a big time replacement, especially when that coach is still recruiting at a high level as Miles was. It's administrative malpractice.

Sir, I can assure you there isn't anything wrong with the post.

Miles assured LSU that changes were going to be made with regard to the offense (as well as a handful of other issues). And as we all know, the changes didn't happen.

So, LSU was left in a precarious situation. The real screw ups happened in the way Miles was handled at the end of the season and ultimately not let go at that time. That mishandling created a cascade of additional problems.

And so LSU was caught a little off guard by an in season firing that was exacerbated by ED O coming in and setting RECORDS with the offense and finishing very strong.

And so when you look at that, look at recruiting, look at the finances, look at who you could truly get to come to LSU, look at what was actually needed, etc., LSU made the right choice.

Now again. He did his job. And whether you like him or not, ED O has stabilized our fall and is showing promise towards a trend up. And as I said, next year we will know, and we will be in a much stronger financial position if a change needs to happen.
