the process by which O was hired was a disaster.

Not only was it not a disaster, it wasn't even that bad. One of the top two candidates can't excel at a program with supposed continuity AFTER winning a National Championship. There was no clear third choice. It happened the only way it could have happened.

I agree with you.

Furthermore, It was 2 totally different situations.

Basketball was in the dumps, had nothing to lose, and has no where near the financial implications to the University (not saying it isn't important). So, they could take a chance on a young up and coming coach in hopes of providing some energy, passion, and promise to the program. It worked.

Football on the other hand, was not in the dumps, though trending down rapidly. And contrary to the idiots on this board, LSU reached out to a handful or more of top coaches past Fisher and Herman. These guys had JOBS thus we couldn't go around publicizing it. Which is why the dummies around here think Alleva just got sucked into to making some sort of urgent hire.

The amount of money it was going to take was just not something LSU was going to do. So they had to look at the second pot. No one stood out. So instead of dragging out the process, a decision was made so that O could save the recruiting class and keep a bigger, deeper slide from happening.

Crisis averted. Ed O did his job and kept a deeper slide from happening and things have stabilized. He has addressed a ton of issues and has hired well.

It worked.

Now the question remaining is can O go from stabilizing the program to trending it back up to the top? It isn'g happening next year, that's for sure. But in year 3 do we take those big steps forward?

No one knows yet. It looks promising, but we don't know.

But the bottom line is that ED O has done exactly what needed to happen and LSU hired the best person it could to do that (since it couldn't get one of the bigger names).

Be thankful. Appreciate him. Support him. Let's see how well coached we are next year and see where our recruiting is going. That will be the sign.
