Here in Tuscaloosa back in the 70's was a company called Gulf States Paper Corporation (now Westervelt). They made newspaper paper and all other sorts of paper products, and they are probably the largest landowner in Alabama.
They had a paper mill here in Tuscaloosa and the workers started discussing unionizing. Mr Jack Warner (the owner of GSPC) said if they did he would close the mill. They voted to unionize and the next day Mr. Warner closed the gates and had all the utilities shut off. It stayed closed for about a year with the former employees on a picket line.
