After 45 years wandering the woods of La i finally saw a bear in the wild this spring. In Yosemite. 
If you don't put out a bunch of corn, it's hard to have problems with bears in LA. Out here in CA though, if you leave any food in your car overnight in the Lake Tahoe area, they will destroy your shite.
