Monday night football used to be a big deal. Is it because of all the entertainment options we have these days?

Absolutely. It was a big deal when it was on one of the 3 major networks, on a night that was generally weak for network programing, and the announcers themselves were stars. None of that is true anymore. And as others have said, the matchups used to be premier games. Even hardcore NFL fans have so many options now that it isn't special to have that extra game anymore.
