Downton Abbey question

Just finished episode 8 of season 2. Am I suppose to watch the Christmas Special, or can I just skip straight to season 3? I'm aware of the BBC and their love of Christmas Specials, I'm just not sure if they follow the plot or if it's just filler. 
Loving it so far. Has their ever been a show with as many attractive actresses assembled?

You have to watch the Christmas specials, in order. They're basically extended episodes that further the current plot. Major happenings in the one you're referring to.

Yeah the Christmas specials are important. As mentioned, BBC takes their Christmas specials seriously. Sherlock had one that seemed like it was a filler episode but it was actually pivotal for the subsequent season.
I loved Downton Abbey. Fun show with likable characters.

Poldark sure has a few.

They kill off one of the major characters in a Christmas Special so yes you should watch it.
