It’s a lot of things, but the prevalent thing posted on this board all year is that there’s no decline in interest and the ratings are impacted by several external one time events and luck of the draw with teams on national broadcasts

That's simply not true, at least on such a broad place as this entire board.

The most consistent thing I've seen from people is the idea that the NFL ratings are down, but they're still an absolute behemoth nationally. They're down from the peak, and there are multiple reasons that all play a part.

It's not just cord cutting. It's not just the protest. It's not just the quality of the product. It's not just the decline of fantasy football among casual observers. etc.

Until late last month every week came with a built in excuse

Starting with sports media outlets. You cannot ignore an entire year of denial. Last year it was explained away most commonly with the election as the culprit. This year it was hurricanes, matchups, etc. I can start posting articles and bumping threads if you like.

Of course it’s still a behemoth. But the difference in what networks pay now and what they’re going to pay when the rights are being negotiated again is serious cash motherfricking money...and if not fixed they’re going to forecast future declines into their bid.

We’re in year 2 if a sustained and growing decline. There’s a hole in the ship and no one has plugged it so ratings declines will ccontinue

NFL is fine right now, networks are getting teamed. Still a behemoth but tell that to the networks but it’s not as if the networks didn’t pay for the ratings before the slump with the expectation they will continue to increase

This isn’t some small thing
