I've legit been late to work before because I missed the train by seconds due to people blocking the escalator. Sure I probably could've hopped over the edge and gotten on the stairs and sprinted down but I'm not about to do that 
Someone posted about the ones for the metro system in DC. Those are in fact the escalators I'm referring to
