I guess that for most, losing is an odd thing to be so fervently proud of for so long.
I get that.
Let's just say southern history isn't full of proud moments. A poor agricultural area, remmebered for slavery, Jim Crow, losing the civil war. The memory of a hard fight while overmatched because we was some hard fighting motherfrickers makes for a combined memory to be proud of, despite the result and one of the primary reasons for the war.
Its apparent to me, having grown up in the deep south and obvious why the rest of the country doesn't understand it at all, especially given the context of the war.

Killing U.S. soldiers for an immoral cause is not something that should be celebrated with pride by any American.
