Saw it. Laughed. His point is taken on the racial aspects at play and why the place the Confederacy has in the southern imagination is hard for an outsider to understand.
They typically omit the narrative of the ragtag Southerners fighting off the Yankees for so long and the role that plays in pride of being from the south. It isn't about the good ole days when the blacks knew their place for most.
Of course, those hard up to defend the statues tend to ignore the racism that was an inspiration for many of them at the time they were put up.

I watched a bit of that.
Didn't change my views at all.
Now that I am aware that John Oliver exists, I will avoid anything associated with him.
