That depends on a few factors and varies slightly by fraternity.

If the fraternity doesn't own their house then the dues go to house payments among other things. This is usually only true for newer fraternities though.

In general, dues go to house upkeep, mixers, formals, parties, and other random events like philanthropy week.

You're not paying for friends. You've already made the friends before you start paying for anything. If you don't make friends and people don't like you, you'll be asked to leave during pledging, but more than likely you wouldn't get a bid in the first place.

Part of your dues also go to insurance, too, for situations like this.

some people just think Morris Day and the Time are gonna come play at the house after the game for free, shite costs money
