How the hell did they not realize the road they were going down would backfire at some point? You can't backtrack an inch or you get lit up by the only group of people you started catering to.

We've seen the same thing play out time and time again.
Person/organization thinks a leftist movement is noble and for the greater good
Person/organization joins movement
Person/org helps advance the agenda
Person/org virtue signals about the necessity of the movement
Person/org does everything they can to advance the agenda of the movement
People in the movement start taking things to extremes that the person/org didn't expect
Person/org has reservations about going along with the new direction of the movement
Person/org is ostracized by the movement as anti-movement
Person/org that once thought they were on the righteous side is then demonized and cast out of the movement
Person/org is then deemed to be the enemy by the movement
Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, etc.
