Like most Schumacher stuff, it hasn't aged well. Spacey is laughable and the courtroom scenes are ridiculously over the top and unrealistic.
But I'll always like it. The setting is great and one of those movies where you can feel the Southern heat and humidity. McConaughey is great, a level headed regular guy that tries to do the right thing as opposed to Bullock's cartoonish SJW.
Great book, could be a much better adaptation today imo.

What, you didn't find it believable that Chris Cooper shouted concerning the man who shot him, "He's a hero. You turn him loose. You turn him loose! You turn him loose!" All I could think was, "That's mighty white of him."
