No they shouldn't, at all. And those on the left who generalize them to the group should be immediately and strongly criticized.

In this case though, part of that criticism has to be put on some on the right. There were far more than I would have ever expected here, to go all out mental gymnastics to defended the white supremacists and the killer at Charlottesville.

I don't think the majority shared their views, but they appeared so desperate to criticize the other side, that they were finding any little video, photo, or snapshot to give the driver an excuse. And they applied similar reasoning to defend the groups as a whole.

It was odd.
