If he was being forced to make a hire he was vehemently against yet would've been held responsible for, he should've resigned. No school looking to hire him would've held that against him.

Meh, resigning a $750k job is easier said than done, especially when politics come into play with most AD jobs. Resigning could signal that he isn't willing to work with the politics that comes with the job.

Also, let's face it, people aren't knocking down his door to hire him, so he probably doesn't have much of a choice.
