Because if you can take away our arms, then it will be easier to take away other rights in the future.
That is one of the reasons the 2nd Amendment was created. It is one of many checks by the citizenry against a possible hostile and unlawful government.
Hell, it is why the WHOLE Constitution was created, to keep the government in check.

I understand that, but the weapons that the government has access to, far surpasses any technology the common man can have.
