Despite being quite conservative by today's standards, JFK is a liberal deity. If their God is FDR, then JFK is their Jesus Christ.

But, as somewhat of a Presidential historian myself - there is an alarming lack of safety around our Presidents going back to Andy Jackson - recall that the 16th (Lincoln), 20th (Garfield) and 25th (McKinley) Presidents were actually shot and killed at close range, while in office. I can't go into all of them here for brevity, but a would be assassin pulled the trigger on 2 dueling pistols a few feet from Andy Jackson.

A guy was arrested with a pistol just a few feet from Taft and the President of Mexico. As a former President and current candidate, Teddy was actually shot during a campaign speech (based Teddy Roosevelt finished the speech - didn't have time to bleed).

President Elect FDR was shot at (and the Mayor of Chicago was killed during the same incident).

And the plots and uncovered plans are many and varied. You mentioned Ford and Reagan. There was also a credible, mature plan to kill H.W. while he was on a foreign trip post-Presidency. Clinton was the subject of multiple attempts - 3 in 1994 alone, 1 while jogging, 1 guy used a plane to try to crash into the WH and yet another guy emptied a high capacity magazine into the WH.


SO - it's amazing we haven't lost more Presidents with this track record.
