The best phone of that era was the Ericksson egg. I once dropped one in a deep fryer set at 400. It took me a few seconds to find tongs.
I took it out and it was melted, but just the case. Changed the case and it was good to go. Took a few days to get the grease out.

I also had a Nokia in 1996 when they weren't common. I let a girl I was seeing use it. I joked "don't drop it in the toilet" well. She dropped it in the sink. Came back crying phone was dead. I didn't want to tell my parents so I put phone up in cabinet. The next morning it was ringing(phone batteries used to last days) I got it and it was dry and good to go.
