HNP is easily corrected surgically (most of the time) by a neuro or orthopedic surgeon (fellowship trained in spinal surgery). A single intervertebral level is usually a one night hospital stay. You'll have to avoid sitting up for a while, but walking is good for the recovery. Best wishes, man.
ETA: post surgery, keep in mind that you will have additional pain for awhile, both from the small surgical incision/associated swelling from manipulation of the tissue in surgery, AND from the healing process of the nerve itself.
