I can assure you I'm quite successful as a father.

They are in rural Oklahoma. Who knows how long it takes the cops to get there. Guys are chasing him and his family, he is trying to drive away, calls family for help. What is dumb about that?

Getting out of the truck and stopping was dumb as frick on a frick stick with your family in the car. He let pride get in his way of being a father

I'm with you except for one thing.

He stopped.

That's where he was wrong. What he should have done (if no cops were truly available) is, as you say, call his brother and family. But when they arrive on the scene, let them stop the bikes while you get your wife and kids out of there. That situation is no place for a woman or kids. Get them out and to safety no matter what it takes to do it. Andcthat includes swallowing a bit of pride and letting your brother have your six. If he's a true brother, he'll do it without hesitation because

1. Your wife and kids are his family as well and he wants them to be safe as well.

2. he knows you'd do it for him if roles were reversed.

If the 14 bikers have guns too and decide to start shooting when they see brother Jed's rifle, now his kids are in the line of fire.

The bikers were obviously a-holes and apparently instigators, but the dude in the truck wanted to fight, and he put looking to fight ahead of the safety of his children.

They said this went on for 14 miles. It's fair to assume the cops could have made it there in that time, or he could have even made it to a police station instead of going to find his bros with guns.

He also didn't have to get out of the truck, his bro with the rifle could have made the bikers stand down while he got his children to safety.

Seriously, how do you not see these obvious other viable options that were much safer options than the one he chose?
