Teams used to drop only a mandatory 6 spots in the 80's and 90's - we just bitch more these days.

Yeah...it matters where you start preseason, it always has.

FSU would lose to Miami and drop to #3...in week 2! Everyone else was like frick, how we going to leap-frog this 1-loss mother-fricker even though we are undefeated????

FSU was like a roadblock. They'd lose to Miami, stay right there. FSU loses to Notre Dame in week 10 in 1993! They only drop to #2. Those frickers would never drop out of the Top 5...no matter when and how they lost (and they were unanimous preseason #1 in 1993 - so you basically had to kill them three times to knock them out of the Top 5.)

They end up winning the National Title over an 11-1 Notre Dame team that beat them.
