800k might find you a place in Bunker Hill or Piney Point zoned to Memorial.
Or east of Beltway 8 in Memorial area is zoned to Stratford.
I'd do that over Oak Forest.

Memorial was very attractive to me until I realized that parts of it flooded three times in three years. I'd have to be very careful with area. Seems like Piney Point has been fine whereas Hedwig and Bunker Hill, not as much.
It's funny how there are two kinds of posters in this thread. People with some familiarity with Houston who treat my post as very normal and those who do not have the same familiarity.
ETA: honestly I thought all the flames would be calling me OT poor for looking anywhere but River Oaks.

My relatives bought a two story 6k square foot home in piney point back in 1976. House just sold for 2.1 million with the land and lake.
