I just remember the great years(The Worst of Jefferson Airplane) a Marty Balin phase, then the Mickey Thomas phase with Jane, then bam, We Built This City.

nearly every band was trying to sell out in the late 70's
one of my favorite Garcia quotes is something along lines of "we tried to sell out, but nobody was buying"

It's was Balin's songs that carried them through the 70's
