A violent crime is lot different than the "crime" of these people, many of whom were escaping violence, war, and starvation, and possible death for their children. But you know that though.

No meaningful immigration reform is going to happen for a while. Much more politically advantageous in some quarters to paint these people in negative ways and narratives to gin up division and resentment.
