My point is, do you think this cop would have done what he did if he thought he'd be arrested and lose his job? I think the answer to that question is no.
So then why would this cop do what he did? I think it was because he sincerely believed that nothing serious would happen to him even if he broke internal policy and the law itself.
I've seen the same thing here practicing law. Police departments here will arrest people with no charge, detain and interrogate them, and then slap a phony resisting arrest or disorderly conduct charge after the fact to try and justify the initial detention. Almost all of these are later dismissed.
We have to hold police more accountable than your average citizen because of the power they wield over us. I don't think our society does a good job of that at all.
