I think it all depends on the parents. If they're socially fricked up, so will be the child.
When a home school kid was introduced to our jr high, he was ran out the school for being weird. Like, the family wore bike helmets while riding in their minivan.
In my adult life, I met a kid that had been home school until 9th grade. The dude was a stud and Mr Popular right away. His younger siblings were nice and knew how to interact with kids and adults.
