Growing up, we were only allowed to choose soda's that didn't have caffeine ("Orange, root beer, or Sprite?" as my aunt would ask lol). The "Word of Wisdom" doesn't specifically single out caffeine, but it says something about "hot beverages" which they interpret to be coffee and tea and extrapolate to caffeine (hot coco is fine, I don't know why...). They overlook chocolate because, well chocolate lol
ETA: you wont find a single drop of caffeinated beverages sold at BYU

I'm sure its tough enough to keep four wives happy without banning chocolate
And while I agree with the general consensus that Mormons are fine people and easy to get along with there are some weird, cultish offshoots that are well beyond creepy. I've got no doubt that these subgroups are only a small part of the larger faith but I've met some disturbing "families" in northern Colorado.
