I'm assuming the bar scene is downtown. If so I want to be as close to that or in it if possible. Any suggestions for good hotels?
Although these aren't technically "my scene", I'd suggest staying in Midtown or the Music Row area (Aertson Hotel, Lowes Vanderbilt, Hampton Inn, Courtyard are all right there and should be noticeably cheaper than the downtown hotels). Why? You're right next to a slew of bars and restaurants (Red Door, Patterson House, Kung Fu Saloon, Winners, Losers, Rebar, Broadway Brewhouse, Tavern, Hattie B's, etc...) You've also got the Demonbreun Circle strip within a 100 yards or so (Tailgate Brewery, Tin Roof, South, etc...) and The Gulch within 500 yards (too many bars and restaurants to list).
Furthermore, downtown is no more than 1 mile away from Midtown and is literally walkable (or a cheap Uber).
If you really wanna drop some money, stay at The Thompson Hotel in The Gulch. Even if you don't stay, try and check out their rooftop bar: LA Jackson.

That's where we used to stay in Nashville. You can grab a cab down to Music Row one night, and hit up all the other stuff you mentioned another night. And if you're there for a Vandy game, walk to the stadium.
