Not really anything to see here. Such relations were common between men in those times. People try to use a similar arrangement to call Lincoln a queer. I doubt you could get the statement out of your mouth before he knocked you cold.

The circumstantial evidence is pretty strong for Buchanan and King

The difference is the only "evidence" against Lincoln is that he slept in the same bed as another man. This was a fairly common practice due to the shortage of beds. Also beds were much bigger in those days -- it's not like you were right on top of the guy.

This was still being done as late as the WWI era. The roommate of Giants pitcher Rube Marquard got a clause put in his contract that when the team was on the road Marquard was banned from eating animal crackers in bed.
