Where did you get the idea that pre-Columbus civilizations were dumb? They were limited by technology, yes, but not by imagination.
For example, we know that fairly sophisticated financial contracts were being written around 3000 B.C. This is preserved in clay tablets from about that time.
They weren't dumbasses and nobody aware of research on the topic thinks they were.

Then we should listen to them when they say their people were created by "gods" who came down from the skies.
