Much too complicated to answer true or false. It was fought over animosity the south had for the north. Slavery was certainly the biggest single issue. But as said, slavery was an economics issue, so it's accurate to say it was over economics.

There were other very serious issues. The South had long taken a serious stance against the overreaching federal government. It's no small thing that the South formed a Confederacy. Most liberals couldn't define what a confederacy really is.
