Low interest rates and a worldwide recession where the US is one of the few economies doing well. Foreign Investment is a big part of the current US Residential Real Estate market as is US "REIT" like investment vehicles for the residential market.

Tech and Fortune 500 companies moving their HQ's helps create a housing need in a already housing short market :(
