People are fickle though. At that point (playing devil's advocate now) haven't we set up a pass/fail system for retention of statues/whatever that the framers are going to fail?
FWIW I think there are compelling arguments as to why there should be resistance when it comes to founders, but society doesn't work that way. It made all the sense in the world to recognize gay unions, but now we're fricking fighting a war about pronouns.

Well that's because the legal groups fighting for them would have lost their jobs if they hadn't moved on to trans rights.
