Seems like BYU is a relatively good matchup for us... They have a pro style QB and say they want to chunk it downfield... with Key doubtful our youngsters on the DL will benefit from knowing where the QB will be and that he needs time to get it to receivers downfield. Chaisson is a beast and a Key clone.. so that should be a favorable matchup... Our DBs should be able to blanket the receivers (they should be much more athletic and faster than BYU) although we definitely need to avoid the occasional breakdown and not allow one or two long passes. Delpit is showing to be a ball hog at safety and the competition at DBU is intense as usual, so I do not expect any dropoff in our secondary. Their running game is worse after losing their top RBs... that should help with LSUs inexperienced LB corps. A mobile QB who would dink and dunk combined with experienced rushing attack would stress our LB and edge guys... Their LBs should be a strength which obviously pairs well against our strength in the rushing game, but I cant believe they are fast enough to stay with Guice on the edge even if they manage to clog the middle. Guice will get his yards and Canada's use of misdirection and WR in the running game will stretch them sideline to sideline. Speed makes up for a bad first step... doubtful they have that kind of speed. Their DBs will have to also protect deep, I cant believe they will want to press against us... that should open up underneath routes for TE, WR and also RBs and while their LB might be experienced enough to counter some of that they will have to respect the run first. BYU will have played a game and while playing a game is good because of the progress young players make from Game 1 to Game 2.. the flip side is we will have game film on them and they will have last year for Aranda and Pitts for Canada. I think that will offset this advantage especially when we are on offense since no one will have seen Canada's offense as it relates to LSU personnel. Pitts tapes will help with pre snap motion, but everyone knows Canada tweeks his play calling based on individuals. BYU will be forced to prepare for misdirection as well as LSU traditional power game. All that being said I think LSU defense will smother BYU offense and allow our offense to wear down BYU defense.... they cant keep up with Guice all day (especially having to chase WR on runs) even if our passing game isn't prolific. Overall I feel like we will slowly pull away from a scrappy BYU team.
