If you're arguing a lot of moderate Dems stayed home because they felt betrayed by their party I can see it.

If you mean Trump is somehow into identity politics... yeah that's a bad argument.

I voted for Trump, but I definitely think Trump set up an "us vs. them" situation, particularly with regard to Hispanics, and I'd say that is pretty close to identity politics.

And before you make the argument that it was just with regard to illegal immigration, consider his comments about the judge. Regardless, just because there is a non-identity factor doesn't mean he's not trying to gain an advantage by using identity politics, which he very likely was.
