Not the extent. It was obviously theorized.

We knew his father and mother. We did not know they were actually married. Making Jon the rightful heir.

I'm not sure why Jon wouldn't be rightful heir regardless. I guess a true heir needs to be born inside wedlock? It kind of seems b.s. since the Lannisters killed a bunch of Rob's bastards on that very reason.

I guess I'm saying is they may have tried to make it seem like a big deal, but in all fairness Jon would be the most legitimate heir regardless.
