That's complete and utter bullshite and just a lame excuse. Being a college football coach is nontraditional employment. Because of the enormous amount of money involved and the enormous expectations, successful coaches never quit at age 65. They either continue until they get fired or they retire only when physically they are unable to continue. It's the same way in the pros as well. These people are driven to succeed. Indeed, I don't see Nick Saban giving up the game and the accolades anytime in the near future even though he is the greatest of all time. He's driven. He's going to do it for as long as he can be successful doing it. Sort of like the Bear.

You're missing my point. First of all, the only types of coaches that control their own destiny like Saban are a handful of the greatest coaches of all time. All the guys I mentioned were also incredibly driven and still wanted to coach as well. That does not change the fact that universities are more inclined to hire someone they think can be the face of their program for the long term future, rather than a guy that could be on the back 9 of his coaching career
