I have one from LSU. I'm an attorney in downtown New Orleans. Like someone else said, I don't think it closed any doors. If you sell yourself and handle it well, it gives you something to talk about in an interview if interviewing for jobs that not a lot of Ag majors are seeking.

I have an associate in science and bachelors in agbusiness and I'm a banker. Only job I've ever had

When you say grain merchandising are you talking about commodity sales?
I am thinking of making a career change and commodity sales is something of interest.
Is it something you can get into without an AG specific degree?

Buying farmer's product direct and trying to get better deals at different mills. Handle the logistics and everyone makes more money.
With rice anyway. Other option is dealing straight with the mill. But farmers lose bargaining power with local mills. I know some guys who buy from a few farmers and ship it to various ports on their own barges. Everyone is happier
I think that's what he's referring to.

trying to find stuff with USDA

You can work just about anywhere. Lots of good jobs in grains, dairy and livestock.
Pay seems to be fair as the talent pool is pretty shallow and aging.

No clue about the USDA. Are you looking at inspector jobs or something more ERS related?

Are your family members large farmers? Does your Dad work for a large ag company? If not, I would recommend getting a Masters degree if you plan on getting a BS in Ag. Nepotism is strong in the agriculture industry, and I don't mean just farmers.

I have an Ag Bus degree, been working for Farm Credit for 25 years.

Any sector you're talking about specifically (nepotism)?
